Maternity Swimsuits are Awesome - and We've Come a Long Way!

By Eric James

Whenever you take a look at the bold, daring and exciting maternity swimsuits available to women today, you will never imagine that there was a period when girls visited the swimming pool or the seashore in swimsuits that looked much more like ball dresses! These types of swimsuits were certainly shorter but nonetheless almost seemed just like long dresses. Nutty, huh? It was in the 1920s when fashion in bathing suits made headway into the prudish conventions of that time period. Nonetheless, the androgynous, athletic tank suits having their built-in modesty shorts remained quite a distance from the far more liberating and revealing bathing suits we now have now. Additionally, these definitely couldn't qualify as maternity swimsuits during the second to the third trimesters mainly because the cut wasn't sufficiently supportive and the materials definitely not adequately elastic. Heaven forbid, as well, that a pregnant girl was witnessed parading around in her bathing suit!

The 1930s swimsuits more closely look like their modern counterparts. You can find the bathing suits of this period in two sections with the bottoms cut high above the legs and also the cloth more figure-hugging than earlier. Expecting mothers might now have on the two-piece swimwear but most probably in her backyard swimming pool only.

And after that came the 1940s with its structured corsets and bone straps for bathing suits. Since the corsets highlighted the hourglass figure of the ladies, you'll surmise that pregnant women were not able to have on these types of swimsuits.

When the bikini came on the scene, around 1946, the world of maternity swimsuits got changed for the better. The bikini allowed for the belly-proud attitude where by the expecting woman can show her belly for all of us to see.

With the much more free attitude in society relating to body image, progressively more expecting mothers began to be dressed in maternity swimsuits to open public beaches and swimming pools without concern of recriminations. Women can now select from many designs ranging from the modest tankinis and baby dolls to the more revealing bikinis. Indeed, should you have the belly, flaunt it!
